In Odessa, a man was caught producing child pornography using AI

Law enforcement officials in Odesa have arrested a 38-year-old local resident who, according to the investigation, possessed child pornography and used artificial intelligence to create new videos and photos. The man faces up to 12 years in prison.

According to the investigation, the Odessa resident searched the internet for pornographic material involving children and stored it. In addition, using a special AI-based program, he generated new videos and photos by combining frames from the stored files.

Law enforcement officials sent the seized physical evidence for forensic examination.

Investigators notified the suspect of charges under Parts 1 and 3 of Article 301-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — for intentionally obtaining access to child pornography using information and telecommunications systems, intentionally storing child pornography without the intent to sell or distribute it, and producing child pornography.

As noted, the maximum penalty for this crime is 12 years of imprisonment, along with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for a period of up to three years.

The issue of imposing a preventive measure on the suspect is currently being decided.
