Due to attacks by the Russian Federation, Ukraine has lost more than 1.2 million school textbooks
As a result of the latest massive Russian attacks in Ukraine, more than 1.2 million copies of school textbooks were destroyed.
The Ministry of Education and Science has already begun reprinting the lost copies.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, 1,206,519 textbooks have been destroyed. The top priority in the restoration effort is textbooks for 9th-grade students, who will be studying under the new NUS standard. Next in line are textbooks for 4th-graders.
At some publishing houses, entire print runs of 9th-grade textbooks on Ukrainian literature, geography, and biology, as well as 4th-grade textbooks on mathematics and English, were completely destroyed. Some students will be temporarily provided with electronic versions and textbooks from reserve stocks.
The Ministry of Education and Science plans to complete the reprinting and deliver the new textbooks to schools by November 1, 2026. The estimated losses from the destroyed print runs are 150 million hryvnias.
The Ukrainian Book Institute has appealed to the international publishing community to support Ukrainian publishers affected by Russian shelling. Over the summer, Russian attacks destroyed nearly 10 million Ukrainian books, causing losses to the industry totaling over one billion hryvnias.
The Russian attack last night was one of the most cynical and large-scale strikes against Ukraine, said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
