They tried to smuggle the man out of the country hidden among banana crates
In the Vinnytsia region, authorities uncovered a scheme to illegally smuggle a man across the border into Romania. Two suspects were detained on the Vinnytsia–Khmelnytskyi highway.
According to the investigation, the man was promised transportation to the border for $4,000. To bypass checkpoints, he was hidden in the cargo compartment of a minibus among boxes of bananas.
The detainees were placed in pretrial detention with the option of posting bail in the amount of 266,000 hryvnias each. Investigators are identifying others involved in organizing the scheme.
As a reminder, a man fatally wounded a TCC serviceman in Lviv.
The military personnel from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Induction who died in Lviv had been mobilized in June.
Earlier, law enforcement officials detained the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office and a co-conspirator on suspicion of receiving illicit benefits totaling 15,000 U.S. dollars. According to the investigation, the official was caught in the act of receiving 10,000 dollars in exchange for failing to take mobilization measures against three conscripts, removing them from the wanted list in the “Oberig” system, and ensuring conditions for their continued employment at their places of work.
