ATB has limited sales of groceries, eggs, and bulk goods to customers
ATB stores have imposed purchase limits on three categories of goods. Groceries, bulk items, and eggs may be purchased in quantities of no more than six items or kilograms per receipt. Store officials did not explain the reason for this decision.
Signs announcing purchase limits on certain products have appeared in ATB stores. The signs state that the limit applies to three categories of goods: groceries, bulk goods, and eggs. Customers may purchase no more than six units or kilograms of a product per receipt. The notices state: “All items in the ‘Groceries’ category are sold with a limit of no more than 6 units/kg per receipt.”
The same rule applies to the “Bulk Goods” category and eggs. Groceries include, among other things, pasta, grains, rice, flour, oil, sauces, ketchup, mayonnaise, canned goods, and spices. These are primarily products with a long shelf life. Bulk goods include grains, sugar, flour, salt, and other similar items.
Thus, if a customer wishes to purchase, for example, a large quantity of grains, sugar, or other products from these categories, they may not exceed the established limit per receipt. The restrictions apply specifically to purchases made at stores within the chain. The posted notices specify a limit of up to six items or kilograms per receipt.
At the same time, the notice does not explain why the chain decided to implement these rules. It is also currently unknown whether the restrictions will apply uniformly across all ATB stores and how long they will remain in effect. Shoppers planning to purchase large quantities of products in these categories should take the new rule into account when shopping. This is indicated by a notice posted in an ATB store.
