The State Bureau of Investigation has notified a military officer of his status as a suspect for illegally receiving over 460,000 hryvnias
Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations have notified a master sergeant—the commander of a reconnaissance unit in one of the battalions stationed in the Donetsk region—that he is under investigation.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.
The servicemember had not reported for duty for over a year but continued to illegally receive financial compensation, thereby causing significant financial losses to the state.
Monitoring payments to military personnel and putting an end to such abuses in this area is currently one of the agency’s top priorities.
According to the investigation, in 2023, the man was assigned to another unit to carry out tasks.
In September 2024, the term of this assignment officially ended, but the sergeant never returned to his permanent unit.
For over a year, the servicemember remained primarily in Kyiv and attended to personal matters. At the same time, he deliberately failed to inform his immediate command that his assignment had been fully completed.
The unlawful conduct of the reconnaissance unit commander continued for many months, accompanied by the regular disbursement of state funds.
From September 2024 to February 2026, he continued to receive financial support, causing the state losses of over 460,000 hryvnias.
These payments were made due to a lack of timely coordination and fraud on the part of the suspect.
Currently, law enforcement agencies have issued a strict legal assessment of the detainee’s actions and initiated the process of recovering the embezzled funds.
He has been notified of suspicion under: “Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—evasion of military service obligations; Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—fraud.”
The penalties under these articles provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years.
