In Kyiv, a man is suspected of embezzling funds belonging to the daughter of a deceased soldier
A 20-year-old Kyiv resident has been notified of his status as a suspect in a fraud case in which, according to the investigation, he embezzled 700,000 hryvnias. This was reported on Wednesday, May 20, by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Under the procedural guidance of the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, the 20-year-old Kyiv resident was notified of suspicion of fraud.
According to the investigation, the man met a 20-year-old woman from Odesa on a dating chatbot and offered her a way to earn money through cryptocurrency. To do this, he asked for access to her online banking, assuring her that it was just an empty card.
In reality, he gained access to all of her accounts and discovered substantial payments the woman had received from the government following the death of her father, a military serviceman.
At first, the suspect withdrew small amounts daily at supermarket teller windows, and later began transferring money to third-party cards and buying cryptocurrency. When the victim noticed the missing funds and contacted the bank, the man convinced her not to trust the bank’s employees.
In total, he embezzled 700,000 hryvnias and even closed the young woman’s account. It turned out that they had never met in person, and the photos the suspect sent actually depicted a different person.
He was placed under a preventive measure—detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 700,000 hryvnias. According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

As a reminder, a pro-Russian blogger spread a fake story about a “mercenary base” in Lviv.
On March 24, Russian occupiers launched a massive attack on western regions of Ukraine using kamikaze drones. In Lviv, one of the drones struck a building in the city center, causing a fire.
This attack was part of a large-scale air assault by the Russian Federation that on March 24 targeted several regions of Ukraine, including critical infrastructure facilities in the rear areas.
