A man tried to reach Moldova by jet ski across the Dniester River

In the Vinnytsia region, border guards detained a 30-year-old resident of the Mykolaiv region who was attempting to illegally cross the border into Moldova. The man wanted to cross the Dniester River on a jet ski, but he was spotted by a border patrol. He never made it to the other side.

 

In Vinnytsia Oblast, border guards thwarted an attempt to illegally cross the state border. A 30-year-old resident of Mykolaiv Oblast attempted to enter Moldova via the Dniester River. According to border guards, the man initially reached the border area by bypassing checkpoints. He then planned to cross the river and enter the neighboring country.

The man had prepared for his swim in advance. He brought a jet ski with him, which was supposed to help him cross the Dniester more quickly. “Despite the late hour and the cold water, the man decided to make the dangerous crossing, risking his own health and life,” the border guard detachment reported. However, he was unable to cross the river. A border patrol spotted the swimmer in the water and immediately set out toward him in a boat.

The man was detained before he could reach the opposite bank. “Border guards from the Mohyliv-Podilskyi Detachment thwarted an attempt to illegally cross the state border. The violator turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of the Mykolaiv region,” the statement said.

The man was held administratively liable for attempting to illegally cross the state border. Border guards once again remind the public that attempts to cross the Dniester in this manner are dangerous due to the cold water and conditions on the river.
