A verdict is expected next week in the case of the murder of Iryna Farion
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv is expected to announce the verdict next week in the case of Vyacheslav Zinchenko, who is accused of murdering linguist Iryna Farion. Court proceedings in the case have concluded after approximately five months of hearings, and the panel of judges has retired to the deliberation room.
During the trial, 30 volumes of case materials were examined, and more than 80 hearings were held. The victim’s daughter, Sofia Osoba, reported that the final decision is expected to be announced shortly. During the closing arguments, the prosecution requested that the defendant be found guilty under Part 1 of Article 263 and paragraphs 8 and 14 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and to sentence him to life imprisonment.
The defendant, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, waived his right to a final statement. His attorney, Diana Kara, filed a motion to recuse the panel of judges, claiming that the case was “fabricated,” but the court rejected the motion. The defense insists on Zinchenko’s complete innocence and demands his release.
