A former head of a court in the Kyiv region has been charged in connection with a scheme to seize apartments belonging to deceased individuals

The former head of the Skvyra District Court in Kyiv Oblast has been notified that he is suspected of involvement in a scheme to illegally seize real estate belonging to deceased individuals, valued at over 3.8 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, while in office, the suspect participated in a scheme to appropriate apartments belonging to deceased individuals who had no heirs. Such property was supposed to be transferred to the local community, but instead, it was registered in the names of straw men through court rulings.

The investigation claims that lawsuits were filed in court seeking “recognition of ownership of the inheritance,” which contained false information about family ties and cohabitation with the deceased.

According to law enforcement, the judge, aware of the violations, signed rulings containing false information, certified them with his seal, and granted them the status of official documents, which served as the basis for re-registering the real estate.

He is charged with aiding and abetting fraud and official forgery.

According to the investigation, the scheme operated from August to October 2022. As a result, an organized group of nine individuals took possession of apartments in Bila Tserkva worth over 3.8 million hryvnias.

Indictments against other participants in the scheme have already been submitted to the court. The issue of a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being decided.

In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
