Former Minister Omelyan has been notified that he is suspected of evading military service
The State Bureau of Investigations has notified former Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan, who is currently a member of the military, that he is under investigation. He is suspected of evading military service through fraud. The former official faces up to 10 years in prison.
This was reported by Glavkom.
According to the case file, on the first day of the major war, February 24, 2022, Volodymyr Omelyan was mobilized to serve as a planning group officer in the headquarters of military unit A7375. In October 2022, the leadership of the “North” Territorial Defense Forces transferred Omelyan to military unit A4643 to serve as a planning staff officer.
As stated in the indictment, no later than October 2022, Captain Volodymyr Omelyan “formed a criminal intent aimed at evading the performance of military service duties.” Specifically, he misled the head of the planning group of the headquarters of military unit A4643, O.P. Kucherenko, by stating that he was performing duties related to logistics and the organization of support for the unit’s operations. However, Omelian’s position did not entail such responsibilities.
Thus, according to the investigation, during the periods of October 20, 2022–February 20, 2023, February 22, 2023–March 8, 2023, May 1, 2023–June 7, 2023, and from June 9, 2023, to June 25, 2023, Volodymyr Omelyan “spent his working hours at his own discretion, without linking them to his military service in military unit A4643, which was stationed in Kaniv, Cherkasy Oblast, at that time.” The serviceman faces a sentence of five to ten years in prison.
As a reminder, the lawyer for Andriy Yermak, the former head of the Office of the President, stated that NABU detectives conducted searches of his apartment three times.
It is also known that Yermak discussed the heads of NABU and the SAP with a “fortune-teller,” although he later claimed he had no connection to fortune-tellers.
The High Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the SAPO prosecutor’s motion and imposed a pretrial detention measure on Andriy Yermak in the form of 60 days in custody.
