Former head of the Lysychansk City Administration suspected of embezzling 20 million hryvnias intended for housing for internally displaced persons

Law enforcement officials have uncovered a scheme to embezzle public funds allocated for housing for internally displaced persons, in which the former head of the Lysychansk City Administration is implicated.

This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the criminal group also included a businessman and a lawyer. They organized a scheme to embezzle nearly 20 million hryvnias intended to provide housing for internally displaced persons in the Luhansk region.

As investigators established, the participants had previously purchased a sanatorium in the Kirovohrad region and registered it under the names of their associates. Subsequently, this facility was selected for the “Temporary Shelter” program, for which 35 million hryvnias were allocated from the budget.

Despite the inflated price and inadequate living conditions, this particular sanatorium was purchased for the displaced persons. The difference between the actual price and the transaction amount is over 19 million hryvnias.

The suspects have been notified of charges under the article on embezzlement of property on an especially large scale. The investigation is ongoing.

On April 21, the Security Service of Ukraine detained military personnel from one of the regional territorial recruitment and social support centers in Odesa.

It is reported that the detention of the TCC representatives took place on Balkivska Street and involved a chase and gunfire.
