Epicenter has begun testing electronic price tags in its stores

The "Epicenter" chain has begun testing electronic price tags in its stores. As the company’s press office told the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, this decision will save employees a significant amount of time and allow them to respond much more quickly to changes in the market value of goods.

"For us, this is first and foremost about efficiency and making better use of our employees’ time, which is especially important given the labor shortage. Instead of regularly printing and replacing paper price tags, employees can devote more attention to customers, merchandise display, and other important tasks. At the same time, electronic price tags help us respond more quickly to price changes and reduce the risk of discrepancies between the price on the shelf and the information in the system,” said Dmytro Tanko, Director of Retail for the Epicenter chain.

The pilot project began at the Epicenter Express store in Sofiivska Borshchahivka (6 Ivana Franka Street). Following the successful launch, the company expanded the pilot by introducing electronic price tags for some products at the “Epicenter” shopping center at 6-B Berkovetska Street in Kyiv.

The main advantage of this solution is its integration with the company’s ERP systems. Price changes in the ERP system are automatically transmitted to the shelf, so product pricing information is updated in real time. This is particularly relevant for product categories where prices change frequently, such as groceries, household chemicals, appliances, and electronics.

To achieve this, “Epicenter” developed its own software product with a modular architecture: it allows for the integration of equipment from any manufacturer without altering processes in the store or shopping center. The system is already integrated with the key tools that sales associates use every day—data collection terminals, mobile apps, and desktop ERP software.

According to Tanko, the company is currently testing the technology across various retail formats to evaluate its effectiveness and assess the economic feasibility of scaling it up.

The current testing phase is expected to last approximately six months. During this time, the company plans not only to evaluate the economic impact of using electronic price tags but also to refine their integration with internal IT systems. Special attention will be paid to periods of high retail activity, when the number of promotions and price changes increase significantly.

At the same time, the company notes that electronic price tags remain a rather expensive solution at this time, so installing them across all product categories in the Epicenter chain is considered impractical. According to preliminary estimates, provided the categories are selected correctly and the system is operated efficiently, the project’s payback period will be 2–3 years. An additional benefit is a reduction in paper usage and costs associated with regularly printing and replacing paper labels.

Epicenter is currently testing the Solum electronic price tag system with SystemGroup, which serves as the brand’s official partner in Ukraine. Solutions from Soarfree, Zkong, and Vusion are also being evaluated.

The Epicenter Group of Companies is an omnichannel ecosystem that unites the Epicenter and Nova Linia retail chains, the epicentrk.ua online store, the “Epicenter-Agro” agricultural holding, the Epicenter Ceramic Corporation ceramic tile manufacturing plants, the “Osmoloda” woodworking enterprise, and logistics facilities. As of early 2026, the retailer’s network comprises 72 shopping centers in Ukraine. According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs, the shareholders of Epicenter K LLC are Oleksandr Herega (51.3%), Galina Gerega (47.97%), and Tetiana Surzhik (0.73%).

This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
