In Ivano-Frankivsk, a court sentenced a man who threw rocks at a vehicle carrying a police officer and three TCC servicemembers. As a result of the incident, the vehicle’s windshield and hood were damaged. The court sentenced the man to two years of restricted freedom but suspended his sentence with a one-year probation period.
The incident occurred on May 31 in the courtyard of a building on Oleksandr Dovzhenko Street in Ivano-Frankivsk. A police officer and three TCC servicemen were there, conducting activities related to mobilization. According to the case file, the man saw a parked Renault Duster with law enforcement officers and TCC employees inside. He then picked up a rock from the ground and threw it at the car.
The conflict did not end there. Other residents of the building joined the man. One of them threw an unidentified object from the balcony into the car. Two other women handed the defendant stones, which he threw at the car. As a result, the car sustained damage. Specifically, the windshield and hood were damaged.
What the defendant said
During the trial, the man pleaded guilty. He did not deny throwing stones at the car and asked the court not to impose a severe punishment on him. The court also took into account his behavior after the incident. The man compensated for the property damage caused. In addition, the court took into account his age and other circumstances. In particular, the man was not under the care of a drug treatment specialist or psychiatrist.
What Sentence Did the Court Impose?
The Ivano-Frankivsk City Court found the man guilty of disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom. However, he will not have to actually serve the sentence as long as he does not violate the conditions set by the court. The court suspended his sentence with a one-year probationary period.
This means that during this period, the man must fulfill the obligations imposed on him and must not commit any new offenses. If he violates the conditions of his probation, he may face the consequences provided for by law. In addition, the man must reimburse 4,800 hryvnias in expenses for expert examinations conducted in the case. Thus, the conflict in the building’s courtyard resulted in criminal proceedings and a court verdict. Despite being sentenced to two years of restricted freedom, the man will remain free but will be on probation for one year. This was reported by the Judicial and Legal Gazette.
