FirePoint has promised to conduct the first combat testing of the Freyja system in 2027

The first combat test of the Freyja anti-ballistic missile interceptor, which is being developed as part of a coalition of 10 countries, is scheduled for mid-2027. Iryna Terekh, CEO of the defense company FirePoint, announced this during the Defense and Space Summit in Brussels.

The project aims to create a European anti-ballistic shield based on the principles of scalability, affordability, and independence from Chinese components or parts subject to ITAR restrictions. The system is being developed on an accelerated schedule, and its algorithms incorporate data from actual combat operations in Ukraine, including analyses of attacks by Iskander missiles and North Korean ballistic systems.

According to the company’s CEO, Freyja is not intended to immediately replace Patriot systems, but is being developed to more effectively repel massive attacks, for which traditional air defense systems were not designed. The program, which under normal circumstances would take 40 years to complete, is scheduled to be implemented in just over two years.

Earlier, FirePoint CEO Iryna Terekh promised that the Ukrainian FP-7 ballistic missile would begin to be deployed against Russia as early as the beginning of fall 2026.

In July 2025, newly appointed Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine was “very close” to putting a domestically produced ballistic missile into service.

“Promises to produce 7,000 ballistic missiles a year are fairy tales for amateurs,” — SAID aviation engineer and drone specialist Yuriy Kasyanov during his testimony at a meeting of the temporary investigative commission, calling FirePoint’s statements a technical absurdity.
