Ukraine's Foreign Minister described Belarus' future

Ukraine's Foreign Minister described Belarus' future

Belarus’s future lies in joining regional alliances with Ukraine, Lithuania, and Poland once a democratic system is established in the country.

This vision was articulated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga during a meeting with journalists from Ukrainian and international media outlets, where current challenges to national security were discussed.

Responding to a question about potential threats currently emanating from Belarusian territory, the head of the Foreign Ministry noted that Ukraine views this issue through the lens of inevitable historical changes.

He emphasized that Minsk’s current support for Russian aggression is a temporary phenomenon that contradicts the European aspirations of the Belarusian people.

“Regarding the Belarusian issue, we proceed from the realities that will inevitably come to pass sooner or later. I have always said this: Belarus—a democratic Belarus with a democratically elected government and leadership—will become the fourth participant in our Lublin Triangle,” stated the head of Ukrainian diplomacy.

The foreign minister emphasized that Belarus geographically and historically belongs to the European space, not to the concept of the “Russian World.”

The minister expressed his conviction that a change in the political regime in Minsk will pave the way for the country’s full integration into regional security and economic structures.

Ukraine is already actively laying the groundwork for such cooperation by maintaining contacts with Belarusian democratic forces.

In particular, Andriy Sybiga highlighted Kyiv’s recent systematic steps, including the appointment of a special representative for contacts with Alexander Lukashenko’s opponents.

According to the minister, involving a democratic Belarus in the Lublin Triangle will help create a strong belt of stability in Eastern Europe.

This will strengthen the positions of Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania in countering hybrid threats and ensure the sustainable development of the entire region.
