Ukrainian border guards carried out an operation for the first time in which Russian soldiers surrendered after a Ukrainian drone effectively coordinated their exit from cover. As a result, four Russian servicemen were taken prisoner. The incident served as yet another example of how modern technology is changing the rules of war. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) reported this and released a video of the event.

Soldiers from the State Border Guard Service’s “Forpost” brigade used a drone to force four Russian soldiers to emerge from their shelter, lay down their weapons, and move toward Ukrainian positions, where they were already being held as prisoners. The Russian soldiers effectively followed the commands relayed by the drone operators and chose to surrender on their own to avoid being killed.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that the operation took place on the approaches to the positions of the Defense Forces, when the enemy came under fire and tactical pressure. To this end, Ukrainian troops deployed a “Matrice 4T” drone, which they used to monitor the situation and coordinate actions. “On the outskirts of the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions, as a result of fire suppression and coordinated actions by border guards of the ‘Forpost’ brigade, with the help of the ‘Matrice 4T’ UAV, four servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces were taken prisoner,” the State Border Guard Service noted in its statement.

According to border guards, the Russian soldiers left their cover, laid down their weapons, and, under the supervision of a Ukrainian drone, headed toward Ukrainian positions, where they were taken into custody.

The State Border Guard Service emphasizes that this is a prime example of how war is changing under the influence of technology, where drones are no longer just a means of reconnaissance or a strike force, but also a tool that can influence the enemy’s behavior without direct combat. “Just a few years ago, such a scenario seemed like science fiction. Today, it is the reality of modern warfare, in which technology and the professionalism of Ukrainian soldiers force the enemy to choose between capture and destruction,” the Ukrainian military emphasized.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck Russian command posts and logistics facilities in the temporarily occupied territories.

Ukrainian drones struck S-300 air defense systems and Russian warehouses in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

SBU drones struck an oil pumping station near Moscow.
