Umerov's office has revealed the reason for his unannounced visit to Berlin
The visit to Berlin by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, is part of routine, scheduled business, and the issue of Ukraine’s “limited” membership in the European Union was not raised at all during his meetings.
This was reported to journalists by the Ukrainian official’s press service, according to Suspilne.
According to the press service, media reports about the “urgent” nature of the talks are not true. In Berlin, Rustem Umerov held an official meeting with Günter Sautter, the German Chancellor’s advisor on Ukraine. It is noted that this visit is a continuation of ongoing work with European colleagues, which took place in Brussels the day before.
The main topics of the diplomatic and security talks in the German capital were:
Current security issues and coordination of further steps;
The progress of the overall negotiation process;
Bilateral defense cooperation, in particular the practical implementation of the joint Drone Deal initiative between Ukraine and Germany.
The head of the Ukrainian negotiating team, Rustem Umerov, unexpectedly arrived in Berlin on May 26 to participate in confidential talks with national security advisors to the leaders of the E3 countries—Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of the aggressor country, the Russian Federation, stated during a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Russia is “launching strikes on targets in Kyiv.”
