Kachka Summed Up His First Year in Office: He Highlighted Key Achievements on the Path to the EU
Taras Kachka, former Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, summarized the year’s work, highlighting Ukraine’s key achievements on the path to European Union membership.
According to him, Ukraine officially began negotiations on EU accession and opened two negotiation clusters—“Fundamentals” and “External Relations.” In addition, the European Union confirmed its readiness to begin negotiations on other areas in the near future.
Kachka noted that over the past year, the Verkhovna Rada adopted 27 laws on European integration, and Ukraine acceded to 23 OECD legal instruments and submitted an official application for membership in the organization.
Among other achievements, he cited the conclusion of a new trade agreement with the EU, the entry into force of the agreement with the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom’s extension of the zero-tariff regime, and parliament’s ratification of the free trade agreement with Turkey.
At the same time, Kachka emphasized that key reforms still lie ahead, in particular ensuring an independent judiciary, strengthening anti-corruption policies, and protecting human rights.
