The Kyiv City State Administration is calling for the right to retake the 2026 National Multidisciplinary Test to be granted due to shelling
The Kyiv Department of Education and Science has approached the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment with a proposal to take safety concerns into account when organizing testing in 2026.
The main requirement is to grant applicants the right to retake the exam if they were unable to sleep the night before the test due to enemy attacks or having to stay in shelters.
Department Director Olena Fidanyan emphasized that the experience of the 2025 admissions campaign demonstrated the negative impact of shelling on applicants’ results.
Last year, the initiative to allow retakes was not supported, but now educators are again insisting on the implementation of more flexible and humane approaches.
“Given the start of preparations for the 2026 National Multidisciplinary Test, we are once again proposing to implement more flexible approaches that will ensure equal conditions for all applicants,” explained Olena Fidanyan.
To implement this initiative, the Department proposes three specific steps.
First, a mechanism must be developed to simplify the granting of the right to participate in an additional testing session for residents of areas affected by massive attacks on the eve of the exam.
Second, it is important to establish a system for continuously informing graduates and their parents about the possibility of rescheduling the exam.
The third proposal concerns the procedure for conducting the NMT at temporary testing centers.
Educators propose adding a clause to the instructor’s mandatory briefing stating that a participant has the right to refuse to complete the tasks and move to a make-up session due to poor health or psycho-emotional exhaustion.
As a reminder, registration for the 2026 National Multitest begins on March 5 and will run through April 2.
Also, after the NMT concludes, participants will see their preliminary results immediately.
