Lviv raised public transportation fares effective May 16
Fare increases for public transportation in Lviv took effect on May 16, and prices now vary depending on the payment method and can reach 30 hryvnias per trip. Authorities attribute the fare hike to rising costs for fuel and vehicle maintenance. This was reported by the press service of the Lviv City Council.
Lviv has officially revised public transportation fares, and as of May 16, the cost of a trip has increased depending on the payment method, according to the Lviv City Council, which attributed the decision to economic factors and rising costs for transport operators.
The lowest fare is set for students paying with a LeoCard—11.5 UAH, while a trip costs 23 UAH when paying via a mobile app or a standard LeoCard, and 26 UAH when paying by bank card or NFC-enabled phone, with cash payment remaining the most expensive at 30 UAH per trip.
Separately, changes have been made to luggage transport, which will cost 23 UAH with non-cash payment and 30 UAH with cash payment, which is effectively equivalent to the cost of a full trip when paying in cash.
The city has also updated the cost of passes: a student pass for all modes of transport will be 575 UAH, and a general pass will be 1,150 UAH, which, according to city council calculations, should ensure the stability of the transport system. “During the previous price review in May of last year, diesel fuel cost about 48 UAH per liter; today, it is already over 90 UAH,” city council officials noted, explaining the fare increase with rising costs.
In the center of Lviv, an unknown man doused Mayor Andriy Sadovyi with an unidentified liquid, after which law enforcement quickly identified him. The police have opened a criminal case under the article on hooliganism, and the investigation is ongoing.
