A massive wildfire in the Chernihiv region has engulfed 5,800 hectares of forest

The area affected by the forest fire in the Koryukivka Forest District, which has been burning since May 5, has grown to 5,800 hectares. The fire has spread across three forest divisions and has affected sections of a fourth, with most of the hotspots remaining inaccessible for firefighting efforts.

This was reported by the Northern Forest Office.

Forest rangers are containing the fire using heavy equipment and firebreaks, the total length of which has already reached 129 km. The work of rescue services is significantly complicated by constant shelling from the Russian Federation, which continues alongside firefighting efforts. In accessible areas, forest rangers are using backpack sprayers and delivering water to contain the fire front.

Rainfall has brought some relief, helping to naturally contain individual hotspots. Despite the rainy weather, forest rangers continue to work around the clock due to the threat of the flames spreading further. Risking their lives under enemy fire, specialists are doing everything possible to protect the region’s ecosystem from complete destruction.
