The mayor of Bucha spoke out in defense of a subordinate who has been charged with fraud
Anatoliy Fedoruk, the mayor of Bucha, stated that the charges brought against his deputy, Dmytro Cheychuk, in the case involving the alleged overpricing of residential building repairs following the Russian occupation are unfounded.
According to him, the case concerns roof repair work on five apartment buildings carried out in 2022. Investigators believe that the cost of one of the construction materials was inflated during the restoration.
Fedoruk emphasized that Dmytro Cheychuk was performing his official duties by signing certificates of completion within the scope of his delegated authority and did not set the prices for construction materials.
The mayor also noted that back in 2022, the city council commissioned a comprehensive forensic-economic and construction-technical examination, which, according to him, found no violations or overpricing of the work. The experts’ conclusions were submitted to the prosecutor’s office in June 2023.
Furthermore, according to Fedoruk, in recent years the Bucha City Council has undergone audits by the State Audit Service and the Accounting Chamber, which also found no violations during the implementation of the reconstruction projects.
The mayor stated that he respects the work of law enforcement agencies but considers the situation “absurd, to say the least,” since the official was charged for performing his official duties. He expressed his conviction that the defense will provide the necessary evidence, and that the court will make the final determination on the case.

On June 25, law enforcement officials announced that they had charged one of the deputy mayors of Bucha with embezzlement of budget funds during the reconstruction of residential buildings damaged as a result of Russian aggression and occupation. According to the investigation, the official may have inflated the cost of labor and materials, which could have resulted in losses to the local budget during the city’s reconstruction.
