Zelenskyy agreed with the SBU on a 40-day operation to force Russia to make peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved a 40-day operation by the Security Service of Ukraine to exert pressure on the aggressor state, which involves the use of long-range and medium-range sanctions. The decision was made based on a report on the results of the SBU’s and the “Alpha” Special Operations Unit’s operations on the front lines.

Particular note was made of the security service’s increased effectiveness in countering Russian forces, specifically through the active use of unmanned aerial systems.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the new decisions in the field of security and defense following a report by Major General Yevhen Khmara, which concerned the plan for so-called “long-range sanctions” and medium-range measures, as well as the current results of the Security Service of Ukraine’s operations on the front lines.

According to the head of state, the SBU has approved a 40-day influence operation aimed at increasing pressure on the aggressor state and creating conditions that could bring the war closer to an end. This involves a comprehensive set of actions combining military, technical, and operational tools of influence.

The report paid special attention to the activities of the “Alpha” Special Operations Center, which, according to the leadership’s assessment, has demonstrated high success rates in neutralizing enemy personnel and equipment. It is also noted that over the past few months, the SBU has increased its effectiveness on the front lines through the active use of various types of unmanned systems.

Zelenskyy emphasized that issues of the country’s internal security—which remain a vital component of the overall defense system—were discussed separately. He thanked SBU personnel for their work and highlighted their role in protecting the country and its citizens.

Ukraine has set a long-term course to increase defense spending: by 2027, it is to amount to at least 26% of GDP. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the corresponding decision of the National Security and Defense Council, thereby establishing the framework for budget policy for 2027–2029.
