In Chernihiv Oblast, a Russian soldier was sentenced to prison for kidnapping a civilian
A Russian soldier from the 90th Guards Tank Division has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the abduction of a civilian and the unlawful seizure of property in the Chernihiv region.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The incident occurred on March 7, 2022, in the village of Hremyach, which was under temporary occupation by Russian troops. According to the investigation, the defendant, along with other soldiers, threatened a local resident with a weapon, seized two of his vehicles, and unlawfully deprived him of his liberty. The whereabouts and fate of the victim are currently unknown.
The court of first instance found the defendant guilty and imposed the maximum sentence—12 years of imprisonment; the appellate court upheld the verdict, and on March 17, 2026, the Supreme Court confirmed the decision as fair and proportionate to the gravity of the crime.
The case was heard in a special judicial proceeding (in absentia), that is, in the absence of the defendant.
Earlier, the Trostyanets District Court of Sumy Oblast handed down a guilty verdict to the Russian “commandant of Boromlia,” who in 2022 staged the execution of a civilian woman—the mother of a serviceman in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in Odesa, a gang of extortionists was detained for demanding payment of a fictitious debt from a soldier. They had learned that he had received financial assistance from the state for his father, who had died in the war.
The Security Service of Ukraine in Chernivtsi detained five extortionists, including a Russian citizen. They were extorting money from mobilized and wounded soldiers, cancer patients, and their families.
