In the Kharkiv region, 50 internally displaced persons will not have to leave their temporary residence
In the Kharkiv region, the decision to relocate 50 internally displaced persons living in temporary housing has been revoked.
The residents appealed to the Ombudsman because they did not want to leave the shelter again, which had become their new home after their forced relocation.
Representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights in the Kharkiv region visited the residents in person, spoke with them, and clarified the circumstances of the situation.
Following this, the Ombudsman’s Office addressed the issue in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine and the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
As a result, the decision to relocate them was revoked. All 50 IDPs will be able to remain at their current temporary residence.
Dmytro Lubinets emphasized that government agencies must take into account people’s real-life circumstances, especially those who have already been forced to leave their homes due to the war. According to him, instead of a formalistic approach, it is necessary to seek solutions that ensure the protection of displaced persons’ rights.

In Zmiiv, Kharkiv Oblast, a former boarding school is being renovated into housing for 222 internally displaced persons. The local budget plans to allocate nearly 388 million hryvnias for the project, but journalists from “Nashi Hroshi” allege that prices for building materials may have been inflated and that the cost of the apartments significantly exceeds local market prices.
