A men's monastery in the Kherson region came under attack by the Russian Federation

In the Kherson region, police evacuated four wounded monks from the Novorayska community. The clergymen were injured as a result of a Russian attack on a men’s monastery. Law enforcement officers also transported the body of a 72-year-old monk who died from his injuries. According to law enforcement officials, the evacuation took place amid the threat of new Russian strikes. The monks were transported to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving the necessary treatment.
Russians Attacked the Monastery
Russian troops attacked a men’s monastery in the village of Chervonyi Mayak, in the Novorayska community, using an FPV drone. A 72-year-old clergyman sustained fatal injuries as a result of the attack. Four other monks, aged 31 to 53, sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds. After the attack, the victims were able to make their own way to nearby Novoraysk.
According to the Kherson Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, attacks on the Hryhorivsky Bizyukiv Men’s Monastery took place on September 19. On that day, Russian troops launched a series of drone strikes against it. The diocese reported that the monastery’s eldest resident, Monk Moses, sustained serious injuries. When the shelling subsided somewhat, the monks decided to leave the monastery grounds and set out for a nearby village. However, a Russian drone attacked them along the way. As a result, four monks were wounded, and Moses died from his severe injuries.
Police evacuated the monks
Due to constant Russian shelling, the situation in the Novorayska community remains difficult. It has become more difficult for residents and those affected to access medical care, obtain medication, and use transportation. Therefore, the monks turned to the police for help. Law enforcement officers arrived at the community and organized an evacuation. The body of the deceased clergyman was transferred to an armored vehicle.
The wounded monks were helped into the vehicle, after which everyone was transported to a medical facility. According to the Kherson Diocese, as of September 21, the wounded monks were already receiving treatment. Their condition was assessed as satisfactory. The Kherson Regional Police note that evacuation operations to frontline settlements in the region are ongoing. Law enforcement officers are working even when there is a risk of renewed Russian attacks.
Evacuations Continue Despite Shelling
The Kherson region remains one of the regions of Ukraine that regularly comes under Russian attack. Russian troops use drones, artillery, and other types of weaponry. Residential buildings, transportation, businesses, medical facilities, and other civilian targets are being hit. Due to the danger, civilians are regularly evacuated from certain communities. Police and other emergency services are evacuating people from settlements where shelling makes it difficult to ensure safety and normal access to medical care.
In this case, the evacuation was necessary for monks who were injured during attacks on the monastery. Four wounded clergymen were taken to the hospital, and the body of the deceased monk was removed from the dangerous area. This was reported by the Kherson Regional Police.
