A suspect in the illegal smuggling of men across the border was extradited from Georgia

On September 21, 2026, a man suspected of participating in a criminal organization and illegally smuggling conscripts across the state border was extradited from Georgia to Ukraine.

According to the investigation, from November 2022 to August 2023, members of the criminal organization arranged for the illegal departure of approximately 40 men from Ukraine. According to investigators, they received between $1,400 and $5,000 for smuggling each person.

Law enforcement officials determined that the extradited man was an active member of the criminal organization and acted out of financial gain. He is charged with participation in a criminal organization, obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a state of emergency, and illegally smuggling individuals across Ukraine’s state border.

After his activities were uncovered, the man left Ukraine and was placed on an international wanted list. He was subsequently detained by Georgian law enforcement officials. After completing the necessary extradition procedures, the competent authorities in Georgia handed him over to Ukraine.

At the request of prosecutors, the court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of pretrial detention without bail.

This marks the tenth extradition to Ukraine in 2026 of a person wanted in connection with cases involving the illegal smuggling of citizens across the state border. Previously, suspects in such crimes were extradited from Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Moldova.

The Office of the Prosecutor General noted that the extradition was the result of joint efforts by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and the relevant Georgian authorities.

Schemes to evade mobilization are being uncovered throughout Ukraine.

In the Chernihiv region, a detained deserter attempted to offer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias.

In Kyiv, a scheme to evade mobilization involving a former official was uncovered.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police have uncovered 12 schemes to evade mobilization in eight regions.
