Ukrzaliznytsia has changed the route to Sumy and Lozova due to shelling
Due to the deteriorating security situation and systematic shelling of railway infrastructure in the Sumy region, Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced combined “train + bus” routes to Sumy and Lozova.
Direct rail service on the Konotop–Sumy route has been temporarily suspended; instead of certain trains, passengers are being offered the option to travel to Konotop by train and then transfer to the company’s scheduled buses using a single ticket. The changes affect a number of routes: trains No. 779, No. 66, and No. 775/776 between Kyiv and Sumy have been canceled, and train No. 143/144 has been rerouted to run between Konotop and Rakhiv.
A similar transfer arrangement via Kharkiv has also been organized for service to Lozova. Ukrzaliznytsia explained that the decision was made to protect passengers following repeated enemy attacks on rolling stock in August and September, particularly after a Russian drone struck Train No. 66 at Toropylivka Station. Tickets for the updated combined routes are already available in the carrier’s mobile app, and the bus and train schedules are fully synchronized to account for potential delays.

JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” has secured $100 million in grant funding as part of the RELINC project. The funds are planned to be used to purchase used locomotives to replenish the company’s fleet.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, 533 locomotives from Ukrzaliznytsia’s own fleet and 75 locomotives belonging to private industrial enterprises have been damaged. Therefore, the railway must not only replace what has been lost but also expand its locomotive fleet.
