A state-of-the-art shelter is being built in the Mykolaiv region at a cost of 152 million

In the Bashtanka community in the Mykolaiv region, a project has begun to build a modern radiation shelter for the local high school, which is being implemented with the support of international partners and is estimated to cost 152 million hryvnias. This is a dual-purpose protective structure designed to enhance the safety of students and staff at the school. The project is part of a broader international program to support communities in Ukraine.

In Bashtanka, Mykolaiv Oblast, preparations are underway for one of the largest infrastructure security projects for the community’s educational institution, where plans are in place to build a modern shelter capable of providing protection against radiation threats while also serving as a dual-purpose space for the lyceum’s needs.

This was announced by Bashtanka Mayor Oleksandr Beregovyi, who noted that during the URS 2026 international forum in Gdańsk, a meeting was held with project representatives to discuss implementation details and next steps for cooperation.

According to the official, Senior Project Manager Aurima Lasickiene participated in the discussion, and the project itself is being implemented with the participation of the Central Project Management Agency of the Republic of Lithuania, led by Director Lidija Kašubienė, and with financial support from the “Neighborhood, Development, and International Cooperation – Global Europe” program.

The scope of work includes not only the construction of a new shelter with enhanced protective features but also the creation of a convenient passageway to the existing building of the Bashtansky Lyceum, which is intended to ensure uninterrupted access to a safe space for students and staff. As of June 2026, the total cost of the project is 152 million hryvnias, and it is considered one of the key steps in strengthening the community’s safety infrastructure in the face of current challenges. Oleksandr Beregovyi, the mayor of Bashtanka, wrote about this on Facebook.

Earlier, Slovakia donated a shipment of modern medical equipment worth over 340 thousand euros to Ukraine, which was received by hospitals in Vinnytsia and Kyiv. Officials in Bratislava emphasize that this is part of systematic humanitarian support during the war and an investment in the development of Ukrainian medicine.

Kyiv received equipment from its Japanese partners to ensure the uninterrupted operation of artesian pumping stations, which supply water to approximately 60,000 residents of the capital.
