In Drohobych, a decision was made to remove the sign for the Mister Capone jazz club, which is located on the facade of the “Tustan” municipal hotel in the city center.
The Drohobych City Council’s executive committee adopted the decision on July 7. City officials explained that the decision was prompted by concerns regarding the use of gangster-themed symbols in public spaces.
The sign is to be removed from the facade of the building at 1 Shevchenko Square. City officials emphasized that the decision specifically concerns the exterior design of the establishment.
According to the Drohobych City Council, the executive committee adopted the decision on Tuesday, July 7. Local residents, including representatives of the Drohobych “Prosvita” Society, had repeatedly appealed to the authorities to remove the sign because it features gangster-themed lettering.
The sign in question reads “Mister Capone,” a reference to the Italian-American gangster Al Capone. In the 1920s and 1930s, he led a criminal syndicate in Chicago and became one of the most notorious figures in organized crime in the United States.
The owner of the sign must remove it on their own by July 23. If they fail to do so, municipal services will forcibly remove it by July 31.
According tothe YouControl analytics system, the “Tustan” hotel operates as a municipal enterprise registered in 2001. The enterprise is headed by Oleksandra Vasylyshyn. However, YouControl contains no information regarding a separate registration for the Mister Capone jazz club or its owner.
