New water mains are being built for 29 communities in the Odesa region
Construction is continuing in the Odesa region on two group water mains, which are intended to provide a stable water supply to more than 68,000 residents of 29 settlements in seven territorial communities.
As part of these projects, plans call for the installation of approximately 218 km of main water pipelines and nearly 385 km of distribution networks in the communities.
These facilities are of strategic importance to the communities. Some of these settlements currently rely on outdated networks or lack stable, centralized access to high-quality drinking water. The new infrastructure is intended to meet the needs of residents, social service institutions, households, and businesses.
“Reliable access to drinking water is a basic human need and one of the key conditions for community development. In the Odesa region, we are implementing two large-scale infrastructure projects that will cover 29 settlements and more than 68,000 people. In total, we plan to build over 600 kilometers of main and distribution networks. Our goal is to create a reliable water supply system that will provide communities with water for the long term,” said Mykola Kalashnyk, Ukraine’s Minister of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Water Supply for 11 Settlements
The first project is designed to provide water to 11 settlements with a population of approximately 19,800 people.
The plan calls for the construction of 84.06 km of main water mains and 180.29 km of distribution networks. The system’s design capacity will be up to 50,000 m³ of water per day.
Currently, work is being carried out simultaneously on two construction phases. Work is underway at the first-stage pumping station, the main water pipeline, Chamber 21, the wells at two pumping stations, the sedimentation channel, and the water intake structure.
A temporary construction site and access roads are being set up at the construction site, and site preparation is underway. Work is underway on constructing the embankment, the crushed stone foundation, and the concrete subgrade. The foreshot has been installed, and work has begun on installing drilled and driven piles as well as temporary culverts.
Water Supply for 18 Communities
The second project is intended to ensure a stable water supply to 18 settlements, home to more than 48,600 people.
As part of the project, 133.94 km of main water mains and 204.4 km of distribution networks are planned to be laid. The design capacity will be 16,580 m³ of water per day.
Currently, work is focused on the construction of the fourth-stage pumping station and a clean water reservoir. Work is underway on excavating foundation pits, installing a crushed stone base and concrete subgrade, waterproofing and reinforcing the foundation slab, as well as pouring the concrete for the tower crane foundation.
The implementation of these two projects is intended to provide communities in the Odesa region with stable access to high-quality drinking water and to create the necessary infrastructure for residential buildings, schools, medical and other social institutions, households, and businesses.

As a reminder, water supply systems are being upgraded in 14 regions.
Ukraine is preparing a large-scale pension reform, which involves revising the mechanism for calculating benefits and increasing the minimum pension for certain categories of citizens to 6,000 hryvnias.
