The ban on electric scooters has been tightened on Odessa's beaches
In Odesa, authorities have stepped up enforcement of the ban on electric scooters on the Health Trail, which runs along the city’s central beaches. During the first joint enforcement operation, 16 violations were already recorded, and inspections will now be conducted weekly.
In Odesa, authorities have stepped up enforcement of the ban on electric scooters along the Health Trail. Thousands of people use this path every day to walk, run, or ride bicycles along the coast. According to the Odesa City Council, on July 31, representatives from the Department of Transportation, the municipal agency “SMEP,” and the patrol police conducted a joint raid to verify compliance with established rules.
During the inspection, 16 violations were identified. Eight of them involved adult electric scooter riders. Half of the violators received citations from the police. Another eight cases involved teenagers. Preventive discussions were held with them and their parents. City council officials clarified that all recorded violations involved privately owned electric scooters. Rental models, according to officials, have software restrictions that prevent them from traveling on the Health Trail.
Starting August 1, such inspections will be conducted regularly—on a weekly basis. Monitoring will take place along the entire length of the Health Trail, from the “Langeron” checkpoint to the “Fountain 16” checkpoint. City Hall reminded the public that only pedestrians and cyclists are permitted in this area. “Riding electric scooters and other light personal electric vehicles is prohibited here,” the city council emphasized.
Residents and visitors to Odesa are urged to follow the current rules and refrain from riding electric scooters on the Health Trail. According to city officials, violators will face the penalties prescribed by law. The Health Trail is one of Odessa’s most popular recreational areas. It is approximately 15 kilometers of path along the Black Sea coast—from Lanzheron Beach to the 16th station of the Great Fountain. Every day, locals and tourists stroll here, play sports, ride bicycles and rollerblades, and go for runs.
Precisely because of the large number of people, electric scooter traffic here has repeatedly caused conflicts and accidents. Over the years, the Health Trail has seen collisions between scooters, riders falling due to a lack of protective gear, and incidents involving injuries to pedestrians and children. City officials hope that regular inspections will help make one of Odesa’s most popular recreational areas safer for all visitors. This was announced by the press service of the Odesa City Council.
Ukraine and Moldova have agreed on joint measures in response to the critical drop in water levels in the Dniester River. Over the next two weeks, water releases from the Dniester Reservoir will be reduced from 100 to 85 cubic meters per second.
