The High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a preventive measure on the head of the investigative department of the Security Service of Ukraine’s Poltava Regional Office, who is suspected of involvement in the acceptance of a bribe amounting to $110,000.
This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on Facebook.
“The investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention, with the alternative of posting a 5 million hryvnia bail, on the head of the investigative department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Poltava Oblast,” the statement reads.
According to the investigation, on April 27, law enforcement officers caught the official, his subordinate, and a lawyer in the act of extorting an illegal benefit.
Investigators established that, through the lawyer’s mediation, SBU employees demanded $110,000 from the business owner. In return, they promised to ensure the conclusion of a plea agreement in the criminal proceedings.
The case involves the supply of equipment to Russia through shell companies registered in Kazakhstan.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Under the law, suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
