In the Rivne region, an FSB agent coordinated Russian strikes and planned the assassinations of military personnel

The Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in the Rivne region who, according to the investigation, was coordinating Russian shelling of the western region and preparing to carry out contract killings of Ukrainian military personnel.

According to investigators, the recruit was a local unemployed man who came to the attention of Russian intelligence agencies due to anti-Ukrainian comments he made in Telegram chat rooms.

After being recruited, the man began gathering information about the locations of Ukrainian military bases that the Russians planned to attack.

“After being recruited, the suspect began tracking the locations of Ukrainian military bases that the enemy was preparing to attack with missiles and drones. To identify the locations of military facilities, he rode around the area on his motorcycle and filmed the surrounding territory using a dashcam mounted on his helmet. In addition, the agent provided Russian intelligence officers with remote access to his smartphone and messaging app accounts, where he uploaded the coordinates of potential ‘targets,’ according to the SBU statement.

According to law enforcement officials, the agent later requested weapons and ammunition from his Russian handler, which he planned to use to carry out contract killings of Ukrainian military personnel in the Rivne region.

He also attempted to obtain a drone to conduct aerial reconnaissance and identify the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

SBU officers detained the man during another reconnaissance mission near a Ukrainian military facility.

During searches, investigators seized a video recorder, computer equipment, and a cell phone from him, which, according to the investigation, contained evidence of his collaboration with the FSB.

SBU investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of committing an offense under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law.

The man is currently in custody.

If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
