In the Rivne region, a drunk 16-year-old driver struck a pregnant woman

A fatal traffic accident occurred in the village of Morochne in the Rivne region. According to police, the 16-year-old driver of a VAZ car was intoxicated; he struck a 26-year-old woman on the side of the road, and efforts to save her and her child were unsuccessful.

 

The accident occurred on August 14 at around 11:00 p.m. on Tsentralna Street in the village of Morochne. According to preliminary findings from the investigation, a 16-year-old resident of the village of Loknytsia was driving a VAZ. On the dirt shoulder, he struck a 26-year-old local woman who was walking in the same direction.

The woman was 37 weeks pregnant. After the accident, she was hospitalized with severe injuries. However, doctors were unable to save her. The woman died in the hospital. Her unborn child also died.

The driver tested positive for 1.9 per mille of alcohol

Police officers tested the driver for intoxication. The “Dräger” breathalyzer showed a blood alcohol level of 1.9 per mille. After the accident, the underage driver was detained. He was placed in a temporary detention facility. Investigators must now determine all the circumstances of the tragedy and figure out exactly how the accident occurred.

 

Criminal proceedings have been initiated

Law enforcement officials have launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This pertains to a violation of traffic safety rules by a person who operated a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in the death of the victim.

The decision on whether to notify the 16-year-old driver of the charges against him is currently being considered. Police are continuing to establish all the details of the fatal traffic accident. This information is reported on the Rivne Regional Police website.
