In Volyn, the rector of a church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) was mobilized
Archimandrite Anthony (Dzhezhelu), the rector of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church—Moscow Patriarchate in the village of Khvorostiv, was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During a document review, it was determined that the priest did not have a deferment or exemption from mobilization.
After undergoing a military medical examination, the archimandrite was deemed fit for service and sent to a training center.
The post noted that employees of the Territorial Military Registration and Enlistment Office had detained Archimandrite Anthony the day before and called on the faithful to pray for him.
Daria Stelmashchuk, spokesperson for the Volyn Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the Joint Staff, told ZAXID.NET that on August 17, a car was stopped at a checkpoint in the Lokachi District, and the driver presented a military registration document. During the check, it was determined that he was not wanted by the authorities, but was subject to conscription and was not eligible for a deferment or exemption.
The church rector was asked to come to the Territorial Conscription Center to undergo a military medical examination. He agreed and arrived at the center on his own.
That same day, the archimandrite underwent the medical examination, which found him fit for service. He was then sent to one of the training centers to undergo basic general military training.
The arrest of the priest on Tuesday, August 18, was reported in the Facebook group of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
