A weapons distribution network from the combat zone was uncovered in Volyn

In Volyn, law enforcement officers uncovered an organizer and two of his accomplices who had set up an illegal distribution network for weapons and ammunition brought in from combat zones. The goods were sold to civilians via mail carriers, and the details of the transactions were discussed via messaging apps.

Law enforcement documented the sale of two AK-47 Kalashnikov assault rifles and nearly 500 rounds of ammunition for them, totaling over 136,000 hryvnias.

The scheme was uncovered by operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department in Volyn Oblast in collaboration with investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).

According to the investigation, a 42-year-old resident of the Cherkasy region organized the supply of weapons and ammunition from combat zones. He enlisted two accomplices to handle the subsequent distribution.

The group members transported automatic weapons and explosive devices from the eastern regions of Ukraine and then sold them to civilians.

Communication with buyers and the coordination of sales details took place via a messaging app, and postal services were used for delivery.

Law enforcement officials documented one such transaction—the sale of two AK-47s and nearly 500 rounds of ammunition for over 136,000 hryvnias.

On September 14, law enforcement officers conducted 10 searches at the suspects’ residences and other premises linked to them.

As a result, they discovered two caches containing weapons and ammunition.

Among the items seized were:

  • an assault rifle;
  • a pistol;
  • more than 2,400 rounds of ammunition of various calibers;
  • magazines and firearm components;
  • explosive devices;
  • other physical evidence.

The organizer and his two accomplices were notified of their status as suspects under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive devices.

All three were detained in accordance with legal procedures.

Law enforcement officials are currently identifying other individuals who may be involved in the illegal supply and sale of weapons. Investigators are also verifying the origin of the seized weapons and the routes by which they were transported from combat zones.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
