A large-scale fire in the Polissya Nature Reserve in Zhytomyr Oblast has been extinguished

On May 19, a large-scale fire in the Polissya Nature Reserve in Zhytomyr Oblast was fully extinguished after emergency responders battled it for 12 days. The fire was brought under control following extensive efforts involving emergency services and specialized equipment. The consequences of the blaze and the extent of the damage are currently being assessed.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region.

For 12 days, rescue workers, in close cooperation with forestry workers, fought the blaze. The fire covered an area of approximately 500 hectares.

Additionally, firefighters from Rivne Oblast were called in to assist with extinguishing the fire. Some sections of the forest blocks were mined, which prevented full-scale firefighting operations. Pyrotechnic teams from the State Emergency Service of Zhytomyr Oblast were deployed to clear the areas of mines.
