In Volyn, a coach was convicted of crimes against his underage female students
In Volyn, a court found a volleyball coach guilty of crimes against the sexual freedom and integrity of his underage female students. He was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison. According to the investigation, the illegal actions against the girls who trained in his program took place between 2012 and 2021.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, between 2012 and 2021, the coach systematically committed illegal acts against the girls who played volleyball under his guidance. He was a well-known figure in the region, served as head coach of the “Volyn-University” youth team, and at various times also headed a children’s and youth sports school.
“The investigation established that the accused exploited his authority, official position, and the minor athletes’ dependence on the coach. He pressured the girls, threatening them with expulsion from the team, exclusion from competitions, and the destruction of their athletic careers,” the statement reads.
As noted by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the coach’s actions had severe consequences for the victims. For years, the girls lived in a state of fear, subjected to psychological pressure and humiliation.
“The exposure became possible thanks to the victims, who found the strength to speak out about their experiences. During the pre-trial investigation, another victim reported similar incidents; she was an adult at the time of her statement but continued to suffer the consequences of the abuse she had endured,” law enforcement officials emphasize.
The defendant’s actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 153, Part 2 of Article 156, Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 152, and Part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Despite the victims’ testimony and the evidence gathered, the man did not admit his guilt.
Juvenile prosecutors from the Volyn Regional and Lutsk District Prosecutor’s Offices have been pursuing the public prosecution in this case for four years. “Prosecutors will appeal the verdict and insist on the defendant receiving the maximum sentence,” the Prosecutor General’s Office concluded.
