The National Police held a meeting on security measures for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations
Security measures during this year’s Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman will be stepped up under martial law, and Ukrainian law enforcement officers will be on duty alongside their Israeli counterparts until the end of the celebrations.
This was discussed at a meeting attended by Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Oleksandr Fatsievych, heads of relevant departments of the National Police, representatives of international Jewish organizations, and the leadership of the Uman Historical and Cultural Center. The top priority is the protection of people and a rapid response to any security challenges.
Meeting participants discussed in detail a set of measures to ensure public order at all stages of the pilgrims’ arrival. Particular attention was paid to conducting an informational campaign among pilgrims regarding the rules and restrictions of martial law in Ukraine. The action plan also calls for enhanced security at border crossing points, constant monitoring and escorting of transport routes to Uman, law enforcement at temporary stops, and direct oversight within the pilgrimage zone itself.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk calls for setting a reasonable limit on the number of Hasidim coming to Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations due to security concerns and the city’s limited infrastructure.
