The NBU has updated its exchange rates: the dollar and euro have fallen in value, while the zloty has risen
The National Bank of Ukraine has published the official exchange rates for Saturday, May 16, 2026, noting a strengthening of the hryvnia against the dollar and the euro, as well as an appreciation of the Polish zloty.
This was reported on the NBU website.
The regulator set the following rates:
- US dollar — 43.95 UAH
- euro — 51.43 UAH
- Polish zloty — 12.13 UAH
Thus, the dollar and the euro have depreciated, while the zloty has appreciated.
The National Bank also announced that it is keeping the discount rate at 15%. The regulator emphasized that it is prepared to take additional measures to curb inflation if necessary.
The NBU notes that after a period of gradual deceleration from June 2025 to January 2026, the inflation trend has once again begun to rise.
Key factors driving price increases include:
- rising energy costs amid Russian attacks on infrastructure
- a sharp rise in fuel costs due to geopolitical tensions
- the effects of the previous weakening of the hryvnia
- faster-than-expected wage growth
The regulator emphasizes that price pressures remain under control, but inflation risks persist, particularly due to the situation in the energy sector and military factors.
On May 18, the National Bank of Ukraine raised the official dollar exchange rate while lowering the euro exchange rate. The foreign exchange market is influenced by the balance of supply and demand, fuel import volumes, and the regulator’s actions aimed at curbing sharp exchange rate fluctuations.
As a reminder, the National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rates for Friday, May 15.
Pyshnyy stated that the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine has decreased.
