The NBU Raised Its Policy Rate Due to Inflation Risks

The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise the discount rate to 15.5%. The regulator adjusted the rate as part of its monetary policy to influence inflationary trends and maintain economic stability.

“The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise the rate to 15.5% in light of the sustained increase in fundamental price pressures and a more significant acceleration in headline inflation by the end of the year,” Pyshnyy said.

According to him, the increase in the discount rate is aimed at preserving the attractiveness of hryvnia-denominated assets, ensuring the stability of the foreign exchange market, and keeping inflation expectations under control, which will make it possible to return inflation to a downward trajectory toward the 5% target as early as 2027.

“The NBU is ready to continue using monetary policy tools, in particular to further tighten monetary policy to curb price pressures,” the NBU governor emphasized.

Andriy Pyshnyy, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, made these remarks during a briefing, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
