In the Zhytomyr district, law enforcement officials have concluded an investigation into illegal sand mining, which caused the state more than 70 million hryvnias in losses.
This was reported by the police.
The investigation established that the company had a permit to use subsoil resources, but the company’s co-founder organized the illegal expansion of extraction onto neighboring agricultural lands.
He involved his son and the company’s director in the scheme. Together, they instructed employees to extract sand outside the permitted area.
To do this, they used the company’s heavy equipment, including excavators and a bulldozer.
As a result, over 68,700 square meters of minerals were illegally extracted.
According to expert estimates, the environmental damage exceeded 70.1 million hryvnias.
Charges have been filed against top SBU officials who “covered up” the amber extraction.
The deputy head of the SBU in Rivne Oblast received over $22,000 from the entrepreneur through the same intermediary for ensuring unimpeded amber extraction.
