The new head of the prosecutor's office made his first statement
The Acting Prosecutor General stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office will continue to operate without interruption following the change in leadership. Among his first tasks are meetings with the heads of key departments, working on high-profile cases, and completing administrative and personnel procedures as part of Operation “Carthage.” He also promised professional cooperation with NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
The Acting Prosecutor General stated that he has already begun his duties. According to him, he understands the responsibility he is taking on, as the Prosecutor General’s Office is currently going through a difficult period. At the same time, the new head emphasized that the change in leadership should not affect the day-to-day work of the Prosecutor General’s Office. “The Prosecutor General’s Office operates continuously. A change in leadership does not halt the work of the Office of the Prosecutor General or the regional prosecutor’s offices, does not affect the performance of our duties, and cannot serve as an excuse for interruptions in our work,” he said.
According to him, the main task at this stage is to organize the system’s operations and ensure results. The acting Prosecutor General has identified several priorities for the coming days. In particular, he plans to hold working meetings with the heads of key departments within the Office of the Prosecutor General and regional prosecutor’s offices. During these meetings, they plan to discuss problematic areas of work, high-profile criminal cases, personnel issues, and decisions that cannot be postponed.
What Will Happen to Procedures Under “Carthage”?
Separately, the Acting Prosecutor General announced the completion of administrative and personnel procedures concerning prosecution office employees. This refers to individuals whose circumstances are currently under investigation as part of Operation “Carthage.” He emphasized that no one should be automatically considered guilty until guilt is established. At the same time, he said, the status of a prosecutor cannot be a reason for special treatment.
“We will not accuse anyone until guilt is established in accordance with the law. But the position of prosecutor cannot be a reason to protect someone or create special conditions for them,” he said. Thus, personnel decisions regarding employees of the Prosecutor General’s Office must be made after the completion of the relevant procedures and taking into account the established facts.
Cooperation with NABU and the SAP
Separately, the Acting Prosecutor General mentioned cooperation with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). He stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office is ready to work with NABU and SAPO professionally and within the bounds of the law. “Each agency must carry out its work within the scope of its defined authority,” he emphasized. According to him, it is important that all law enforcement agencies operate in accordance with their respective functions and do not exceed their authority.
Promises to Answer Questions
The acting Prosecutor General also stated that he understands the significant public interest in the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office. He is ready to publicly answer questions, including those concerning himself. “I understand the public interest and am ready for a direct and substantive conversation. I will answer all the questions being raised today, including those directed at me,” he said.
At the same time, the new head of the prosecutor’s office asked for time to take the first practical steps. According to him, in the near future he will be able to speak not only about plans but also about concrete results of the work. “In the near future, I will be able to speak not only about my vision but also about the steps already taken and the first results,” he stated.
He concluded that the main task now remains ensuring the stable operation of the Prosecutor General’s Office. “Today, my main task is to ensure the operation of the Prosecutor General’s Office—calmly, professionally, and responsibly,” noted the acting Prosecutor General. As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada supported the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General.

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court considered an appeal against the pretrial measure imposed on Serhiy Kropiva, the former deputy head of one of the departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office, who is a defendant in the “Carthage” case.
