The OSCE is invoking the Moscow Mechanism due to the militarization of Ukrainian children

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is activating the Moscow Mechanism to document the aggressor’s systematic policies in the occupied territories. This decision will allow independent experts to document instances of indoctrination, militarization, and forced assimilation of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation. 

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The diplomatic agency emphasizes that the occupiers’ actions constitute a deliberate state strategy aimed at destroying the national identity of the future generation. The Moscow Mechanism has repeatedly proven its effectiveness as a tool for establishing facts and building a body of evidence for international courts. The mission’s new mandate will focus on exposing the criminal system of abduction and ideological indoctrination of minors.

Ukraine calls on the Russian Federation to immediately cease these practices, provide lists of all abducted children, and ensure their unconditional return home. The use of this international instrument is an important step toward global solidarity and the protection of fundamental human rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that it will continue its efforts until all those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.

The Moscow Mechanism is a special procedure of the OSCE’s Human Dimension, established by a consensus decision of all participating States in the 1991 OSCE Moscow Document and the 1992 OSCE Helsinki Document. The mechanism enables a group of participating States to form special missions from among independent experts to investigate reports of violations and assist in resolving specific issues related to the OSCE’s human dimension.
