The Rada has allocated an additional ₴600 million for the safety of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the exclusion zone
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved amendments to the state budget that provide for additional funding to ensure the safe operation of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Exclusion Zone.
Nearly 600 million hryvnias will be allocated for the needs of the Chernobyl NPP and the exclusion zone.
“Nearly 600 million hryvnias have been allocated for these needs. Of this amount, over 525 million hryvnias will go toward maintaining the safety of the reactor units and the ‘Shaft’ facility, as well as ensuring the operation of personnel at the Chernobyl NPP,” Shmyhal noted.
In addition, over 72 million hryvnias will be allocated to maintain the environmentally safe condition of the exclusion zone, monitor the territory, and implement fire prevention measures.
In addition, amendments to the state budget provide for the allocation of over 127 million hryvnias for the coal industry, as well as the fulfillment of social obligations to industry workers.
The minister added that the document also provides for additional funding for cybersecurity and the development of the IT infrastructure of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The amendments adopted by parliament are intended to strengthen the security of strategic energy facilities, ensure the stable operation of Chernobyl NPP personnel, and maintain the proper environmental condition of the exclusion zone.
