The defendant in the Parubiy case has been remanded in custody until July

A court in Lviv has extended the pretrial detention of the man accused in the murder of Andriy Parubiy; he will remain in custody until at least July 23. The court also considered a motion to conduct a closed-door examination of photos and videos from the crime scene. The hearing was marked by questioning, court records, and conflicting statements from the parties. This was reported by a Suspilne correspondent from the courtroom.

On May 25, the Frankivsk District Court of Lviv ruled to keep Mykhailo Stselnikov in custody without the right to bail, extending the preventive measure until July 23. At the same time, in the case of Andriy Parubiy’s murder, the court also agreed to review part of the materials in closed session due to their nature.

Present in the courtroom were the prosecutor, the victims’ representatives, the defense, and the defendant himself. During the hearing, the prosecutor insisted that the risks to the investigation remain high and therefore there are no grounds to change the preventive measure.

The prosecution explicitly stated the need for strict supervision, and the victims’ attorney supported this position, emphasizing the potential risks of flight and interference with the investigation, specifically citing the defendant’s statements. “We support the prosecutor’s position, particularly regarding the risks that were mentioned,” said the victims’ attorney, adding that, according to him, the defendant had previously expressed intentions to travel to Russia.

The defendant himself commented on the situation quite sharply in court and stated: “Basically, he said everything correctly. My only regret is that it wasn’t enough. But otherwise, please, no questions—proceed.”

Meanwhile, prosecutors read out the records of investigative actions and materials gathered as part of the case, which, according to them, comprises over 30 volumes, and the court has only just begun reviewing the first two.

The discussion covered inspections of the crime scene in Lviv and near Vynnyky, seized physical evidence—including a bicycle and burned items—as well as witness testimony from individuals who, according to the investigation, may have seen a person leaving the scene on an electric bicycle.

Separately, the court had previously frozen a portion of the funds related to the one-time financial aid, and the next hearing is scheduled for June 22, when the court plans to continue examining the written evidence.

On Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Lviv, the grand opening of the Andriy Parubiy, Hero of Ukraine, Square will take place. The new urban space is located in the central part of the city and stretches from Lychakivska Street to Prosvity Street.

As a reminder, the SBU has referred the case regarding the murder of Andriy Parubiy to court.

In Lviv, a decision was made to create a square named after Hero of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy in the central part of the city.

In the Frankivsk District Court of Lviv, the defendant Mykhailo Stselnikov pleaded guilty to the murder of Ukrainian MP Andriy Parubiy.
