The head of a charitable foundation was sentenced to seven years in prison for organizing an escape abroad

A court in Kyiv has handed down a guilty verdict to the founder of a charitable organization, who was found guilty of organizing a scheme to illegally smuggle conscripts across Ukraine’s state border

The offender was sentenced to seven years in prison with full confiscation of all his property

The prosecution in the trial was handled by prosecutors from the Darnytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, who fully proved the defendant’s guilt.

The prosecution established that in August 2023, the defendant met a resident of the capital who was actively seeking ways to leave the country to join his mother.

The head of the foundation assured his potential “client” that he had a real opportunity to arrange the departure under the guise of volunteer work through his own charitable organization.

For this illegal service, the perpetrator initially received $7,000.

Officially, this amount was recorded as a charitable donation, allegedly intended for the purchase of a “Mavic 3T” quadcopter for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Subsequently, the perpetrator’s initial plan failed because it was not possible to officially register the man in the system for travel abroad through a charitable organization.

The founder of the foundation then devised another plan, which involved illegally crossing the state border on foot, bypassing established checkpoints in the Zakarpattia region.

He estimated the cost of this significantly more dangerous route at $12,000, so he demanded an additional $5,000.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Court Extends Restrictions on Trukhanov Until August 1

Earlier, the Kyiv Court of Appeals upheld the preventive measure against former Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov in a case of official negligence that resulted in the deaths of nine people.

Law enforcement officials announced charges against nine officials of the Odesa City Council and a municipal enterprise for official negligence that led to the deaths of people during the massive flood on September 30.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov had been stripped of his citizenship due to his Russian passport.
