The heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Bank of Ukraine have coordinated their actions against Hungary regarding the misappropriated funds of Oschadbank
On April 6, 2026, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga and National Bank Governor Andriy Pyshnyy held a meeting during which they coordinated steps to resolve an incident involving the illegal appropriation of Ukrainian assets on the territory of a neighboring state.

The funds in question were in cash-in-transit vehicles and were being transported through Hungary. Sybiga emphasized that the National Bank’s work during wartime is essential for maintaining the state’s stability, and resolving the situation with the transit funds is a matter of restoring justice and protecting Ukraine’s financial interests.
Currently, diplomatic and banking authorities are developing a joint action plan to ensure the swiftest possible return of the misappropriated assets.
As a reminder, on March 5, Hungarian law enforcement stopped a convoy of Oschadbank vehicles carrying gold, as well as tens of millions of dollars and euros, from Vienna to Ukraine. The Hungarian side blocked the funds, citing suspicions of “money laundering.”
Oschadbank suspended currency imports from the EU.
Oschadbank’s vehicles were foundon the premises of Hungary’s counterterrorism center, according to a source.
The Ukrainian state bank reported that Oschadbank’s cash-in-transit vehicles, detained by Hungarian law enforcement in Budapest, were transporting significant amounts of foreign currency and gold.
The National Bank of Ukraine responded to the incident involving the detention of Oschadbank cash transporters in Hungary and appealed to the Hungarian authorities to provide an official explanation of the situation.
