The Czech President called on NATO to cut off Russia's internet connection

Czech President Petr Pavel stated that NATO should consider “decisive and asymmetric” responses to Russia’s actions. In an interview with The Guardian, he cited cutting Russia off from the global internet, excluding its banks from international financial systems, and responding to airspace violations as possible measures.

He stated that Moscow has developed “a pattern of behavior that almost reaches the threshold for invoking Article 5, but invariably remains just below it” (Article 5 of the NATO Charter stipulates that an attack on one member of the alliance is considered an attack on all. — TMT). Among possible steps, Pavel cited disconnecting Russia from the global internet, excluding its banks from international financial systems, and shooting down aircraft that violate the airspace of NATO countries.

Commenting on the current situation, Pavel emphasized that the alliance should not limit itself to diplomatic statements. “Unfortunately, Russia does not understand nice words. They understand the language of force,” he said.

As a reminder, the Czech Republic plans to significantly tighten the rules for providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

The Czech opposition party “Freedom and Direct Democracy” (SPD) is finalizing a new version of the law on foreigners, which provides for a significant tightening of the conditions for the stay of foreign nationals in the country

As a reminder, Slovakia has automatically extended the term of temporary protection for Ukrainians who fled Ukraine due to the full-scale war unleashed by Russia until March 4, 2027.

In addition, Ukrainians who have received temporary protection in Ireland can breathe a sigh of relief, as the country’s authorities have automatically extended their immigration permits until March 4, 2027.

Although the EU has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until 2027 and guaranteed them access to housing, the labor market, education, and healthcare, the situation is already changing in many ways.
